Did you know chewing gum does more for you than keep your mouth busy? Well, it’s true. In fact, chewing gum can help your smile if you let it. This is why our dentist, Dr. William Wilson, recommends chewing gum regularly throughout the day. To tell you a little more about chewing gum in Chicago, Illinois, he is happy to share some facts with you.

-Sugar-free gum can help you maintain a clean smile and prevent dental issues. This is because when you chew gum, you produce saliva. The saliva washes the mouth and eliminates the bacteria. The more saliva you produce, the better. Please remember to chew sugar-free gum. If you chew regular gum, you can promote cavity development while you chew.

-Xylitol is an ingredient in sugar-free gum. It can help you prevent cavities. This is because it makes it difficult for the bacteria to adhere to the tooth and destroy the enamel.

-It’s recommended to avoid chewing gum if you have jaw soreness or jaw problems, like TMJ disorder. You also need to avoid replacing your oral hygiene routine (brushing and flossing) with chewing.
